Why we must fight to save The Rec
By Matt • Jan 22nd, 2010 • Category: BlogToday is an important day for Mile End. It’s the day we start to fight back and protect our community assets. The Rec has been part of my life, and those of many of my neighbours.
But it’s under threat. Developers want to build on the land, robbing our community of valuable and much cherished facilities.
I believe we all want this wonderful area to serve future generations as well as it has served us. Some seem resigned to the fact we are going to lose the Rec. But there is a way, a real way we can save the Rec. Today, I am asking the Council, who own the Rec to hand the fields over the Fields in Trust or a similar Trust. This organisation is a charity, who hold playing fields in safe hands, forever and for the good of the community. Simple. They promise to hold the land and never to sell out to developers.
It’s time to fight. It’s time to ask the Council to be on our side.. It’s time to ask them to stand up to these developers. Together, let’s save The Rec.
