CONSERVATIVES TO SCRAP REGIONAL HOUSING TARGETS

A Conservative Government will abolish the undemocratic and unwieldy tier of regional planning across England. This will include changing the law to scrap the Regional Spatial Strategies and Regional Planning Bodies, returning the powers to elected Local Councils.

This will allow Local Councils to protect their local environment and decide for themselves the most appropriate level of development for their area.

Under Conservative plans, all regional housing quotas will be scrapped.

Speaking on the announcement Will Quince said:

Over development is a major issue in our Town and it is about time we told the Regional Planners enough is enough. I have no issue with new developments as long as they are sustainable and appropriate but do take issue with Regional Planners telling Colchester Borough Council how many flats they must approve. I am delighted that the next Conservative Government will return development planning to Local Councils, taking them away from the unelected and unaccountable Regional Planners.
