Welcome to our web site
Being selected as your prospective Conservative Member of Parliament was the proudest day of my life and since then I have been fighting Colchester’s corner both nationally and locally. I think Colchester is a great place to live and work but often think how much better it could be. I am working hard to tackle anti-social behaviour, fight over development and to hold the Liberal/Labour run Colchester Borough Council to account.
I hope you enjoy browsing through the site where you will be able to find out about our candidates, our campaigns and our vision for a better Colchester.
All my details are on my contacts page so please contact me if you have any issues, no matter how large or small.

Congestion Busting: 12 congestion busting schemes delivered across Essex.
Roads & paths: Highway maintenance and pot hole repairs in Essex are now recognised as amongst the UK’s best.
Public Transport: We will give every young person aged 14-19 in full-time education concessionary fares on all local buses.
Post Offices: We took a stand against the Government’s Post Office closure programme by re-opening Essex Post Offices.
Help in Tough Times: We have delivered £100 Council Tax relief to 30,000 of the County’s most vulnerable families. We will also establish a Bank of Essex to support local small businesses through the credit crunch.
Fighting Crime: We helped put more PCSOs on local streets, which has assisted in reducing priority crimes by almost 20%. We are committed to making Essex the safest county in the country in 4 years and are currently working with Essex Police on ten targeted operations to reduce crime.

I was urged to stand for the Essex County Council seat of Parsons Heath and East Gates by friends in St. Johns ward, who showed me accounts in their local councillors’ newsletters of long drawn-out battles to get things done. Could it really be that difficult, they asked?
For me, getting good service for residents [...]

The Wivenhoe St. Andrews Division of the County Council is divided into three completely distinct parts: Wivenhoe, Greenstead and the University. Each of these three parts has its own special interests and needs and I like to think that I am well qualified to serve all parts of the division.

Over the last week or so, ministers across all parties have been grilled by the Telegraph for their expenditures and claims. Now it has emerged that nine cabinet ministers, hired accountants to help them with their tax returns.

Bob Russell MP wants a return to Conservative administration in Westminster»
In a recent House of Commons debate, our glorified local councillor (on ten times the salary!) indicated he would be happy with a return to the pre-1997 Conservative administration:
Both my hon. Friend and I were leaders of local councils before we came to this place. Does he agree that, after 12 years of a new labour Government, [...]

When Labour is a dirty word
In the 1997 general election, the people elected the New Labour Party. We believed that we had elected a socially responsible Government; a Government that would focus on the NHS, Crime and Justice, Foreign Affairs, and more importantly, Education Education Education.
What we got was an entirely different story.
We got [...]

Sound of Silence - part 2»
What makes life so joyous, is that reality far exceeds fiction in the unexpected scenarios that it throws up. Who would have thought that a LibDem MP could unleash my inner Simon and Garfunkel? For several days, I have been humming “The Sound of Silence” practically on a loop.
As my colleague, Alan Drew [...]
Is the High Street to close?»
£700,000 has been earmarked to change the layout of Colchester High Street. Could this mean pedestrianisation? I just hope that the Lib Dems don’t make the same mistake as they did on the shrubs and ‘forget’ to ask the people of Colchester what they think. I have always found residents split on the issue:
We need a town [...]
Our MP against Colchester - here we go again!»
So we finally have the plans for the new magistrates court and guess what….the MP does not like them. We finally get some investment in our town centre with a revamped Lion Walk, after the Lib Dems pulled out of our new shopping centre at Vineyard Gate, and guess what….the MP does not like them. New homes for Colchester»
Despite the Lib Dem claims that they would curb housing expansion, they have welcomed a £12m package to create 13,510 new homes by 2021. Lib Dem Councillors were elected on the promise that the area would not have to cope with more housing and yet they have opened up land from Mile End to the [...]
Graffiti be gone!»
In Prettygate we have had a crack down on graffiti - on a ward tour I found 45 sites which have all been reported to Colchester Borough Council. One fence that the Council would not tackle, we did ourselves! Some of the ‘artwork’ was quite entertaining and had been there for at least 10 years [...]
